Sharon Gelman is an award-winning media and event producer, human rights activist, non-profit strategist, writer, and editor. She was the longtime executive director of Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA), an organization of noted artists working in partnership with Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu and other progressive leaders and frontline activists to end apartheid, build democracy, advance civil rights, and change the course of the African AIDS pandemic. Gelman has produced numerous concerts, film premieres, public and private events, public education campaigns, and other media featuring acclaimed performers and actors. She conceived of and produced the Grammy-nominated, multiple award-winning audiobook, Nelson Mandela’s Favorite African Folktales, directed by Alfre Woodard. She also wrote and voiced the afterword for the unabridged audiobook version of Nelson Mandela’s autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom. Gelman, who has a master’s degree in creative writing, is the US editor of 200 Women: Who Will Change the Way You See the World, published in 2017 by Chronicle Books.
